Piezo-Actuators

Piezo actuators are solid-state devices that change shape when electrically charged. No friction is involved, so the resolution during positioning is limited only by the noise of the voltage source.

Electro-eroded solid-state joints (EDM-cut flexures) are used for the transmission levers and guides. Since these also operate without friction, the fine resolution of the piezo drives can be transferred directly to positioning tasks.

Piezo actuators are electrical capacitors. They require a specific control voltage and current, which depends on the operating dynamics. Drives without sensors are operated with controllers. Systems with sensors require control systems.
